How to apply

Four steps to your child's scholarship

Applications for the 2027-28 school year open on February 1, 2027. You can get ready now. Here is the whole path, from the first question to your award.

A mother reviews information on a laptop at the kitchen table while her daughter leans on her shoulder.

The four steps

  1. Step 1. Check eligibility and choose a scholarship.

Read the one-line test for each scholarship and the eligibility rules. Most families know their fit in a few minutes.

  2. Step 2. Gather your documents.

Use the checklist below. Having everything ready makes your application faster and your decision sooner.

  3. Step 3. Apply online.

    Opens February 1, 2027

Applications open on February 1, 2027, in the Alta Via Education Portal. You will create an account, add each child, and upload your documents. We will share more about the portal before it opens. Until then, join our interest list and we will email you the day applications open.

  4. Step 4. Get your decision and accept your award.

We will review your application and tell you the result by email and in the Alta Via Education Portal. Accept the award, and we will explain what happens next for your scholarship: payments to your child's school, or your child's account for approved expenses. Scholarships are renewed each year.

What you'll need

Start collecting these now. You will upload them when you apply.

For every child

  • Proof that you live in Florida, such as a utility bill, lease or mortgage statement, or Florida driver license (military families moving to Florida can use their permanent change of station orders)
  • Your child's birth certificate or other proof of age
  • Your child's Social Security number. If the student does not have a Social Security number, please contact Alta Via for assistance before submitting.
  • The name of the school your child will attend, if you are applying for the Private School Scholarship

Only if they apply to you

  • Household income documents, such as last year's tax return, W-2s or recent pay stubs, if you are seeking income-based priority or when they are needed to document eligibility or priority status
  • Your child's IEP (from Florida or another state), or a diagnosis from a licensed physician or psychologist, for the Unique Abilities Scholarship
  • A foster care or out-of-home care placement letter
  • Military orders, for active-duty families moving to Florida (permanent change of station orders)

We will confirm the final list before applications open. Never send documents by email; you will upload them securely in the Alta Via Education Portal.
