Eligibility
No. Every Florida family can apply. When funding is limited, families with lower incomes and children in foster or out-of-home care are served first.
Start with the Unique Abilities Scholarship. It is built for students with qualifying conditions and can pay for therapies and services as well as private school.
Yes. Apply for the 2027-28 school year when applications open on February 1, 2027, and your child would use the scholarship once they leave public school for a private school or home education.
Families currently served by another scholarship funding organization (SFO) may contact Alta Via for transfer guidance.
Using a scholarship
The state sets the amounts each year by grade and county, and for the Unique Abilities Scholarship by level of need. For 2026-27, Private School Scholarship awards ranged from about $7,500 to $12,200 a year, and most Unique Abilities awards from about $9,600 to $14,400, with more for students with the greatest needs. Actual 2027-28 award amounts will be updated when released by the state and may vary by grade level, county, and program.
For the Private School Scholarship, payments go to your child's school. For the Unique Abilities Scholarship and the Personalized Education Program, your child has an account, and you choose approved expenses that we review and pay.
The Florida Department of Education keeps a directory of private schools that take scholarships.
